When you are ready to attempt a much larger design than can be staged on a bench or plinth, it’s time for a floor design.
Floor based designs are usually at least 1 metre square or 120cm diameter circle as the base and upwards of 180cm in height. Sometimes the staging area is supplied with a backing board which gives you a reference for sizing both at the base and for height. Be sure to check what colour this will be and get the actual paint name so you can paint your own staging/structure if you want this to blend in.
The square based designs are generally judged from the front and sides, the circular one can be judged all around or only from the front and sides.
Scale and proportion of horticultural material are the most important design elements to master.
